Grayson McBurney

My name is Grayson McBurney, and I am a Brisbane, Meanjin based dancer, teacher and choreographer currently completing my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance at QUT. I grew up as a classically trained dancer, but after burning out at 18, I wasn’t sure what place dance would have in my future. Musical theatre found me completely by accident when a friend at university encouraged me to apply for a teaching role at Stage School Australia. I had never considered myself a musical theatre person, but that opportunity completely changed the trajectory of my career. I am now Head of Dance at Stage School Australia in Queensland, where I teach and help young performers build their confidence onstage. After discovering a love for musical theatre from the other side of the rehearsal room, I’m now diving headfirst into theatre auditions myself. Fun fact: I grew up listening to Tim Minchin’s hilariously age-inappropriate CDs in the car because my parents loved him, so auditioning for the ensemble of Matilda feels like a very fitting full-circle moment. Any position within this production would be an absolute dream come true!
