About

Janae is a Musical Theatre student at the University of Adelaide, training across singing, dance, acting, accents and dialects, and musicianship. Originally from Singapore, she now lives independently in Adelaide, bringing a cross-cultural lens to her work. Her musical roots go back to piano lessons at age five, followed by self-taught guitar — a foundation that’s shaped her ear and musicality ever since. On stage, Janae has held understudy, solo, and ensemble roles in Broadway Off-Broadway at Adelaide Fringe, and is currently involved with the production of & Juliet at the Elder Conservatorium of Musical Theatre. She’s also developing her own songwriting practice and genre variety in singing — gospel-rooted with R&B, soul, jazz, and blues influences, along with pop, MT and many others — which has sharpened her vocal styling and stage musicianship beyond what coursework alone demands. For Janae, singing and acting have always been about more than performance — they’re a way of giving people’s stories a stage and a voice. She’s drawn to the moments where a song or a scene can reach past an audience’s guard and genuinely touch something in them, and she sees that as the real purpose behind her craft: not just to entertain, but to leave people a little changed — a shifted perspective, a felt emotion, a moment that stays with them. That belief has shaped her time exploring the intersection of worship as well as stagecraft — one where storytelling has the power to genuinely matter to the people watching it.
