About

Julia Pierrette is a Canadian-born, Sydney-based actor, singer, and theatre-maker with a flair for bold, emotionally resonant storytelling. A graduate of Vancouver’s prestigious Studio 58 conservatory theatre program, Julia’s work spans classic and contemporary musicals, cabaret, and original devised theatre. Julia booked her first professional musical theatre role straight out of Studio 58 in "Berlin: The Last Cabaret", produced by Vancouver City Opera and presented at the PuSh International Festival. The show featured songs from the Weimar era, demanding sharp vocal technique and emotional range. That same year, she created and starred in "CLIO: A giant clitoris puppet learning to love herself", an original physical theatre piece performed for sold-out audiences at Vancouver’s Art of Loving store, a site-specific piece of theatre that was the first of its kind at this location. Featuring a three-foot-tall puppet and an unflinching sense of humour, the show was bold, educational, and hilarious. Most recently, Julia played the lead in "The Pajama Girl" (Players in Exile), a new Australian musical. Her performance was praised by Theatre Travels reviewer Kate Gaul: “Notably, Julia Pierrette plays The Pyjama Girl with style and a knowing wink to the audience. She sings and moves well and is a name to watch. Her work felt original.” Julia also works as a princess impersonator, bringing beloved characters to life for children across Sydney. Her work in this space showcases her strong improvisation skills, warmth, and ability to command the attention of 5-year-olds, which is no easy task! No bio on Julia would be complete without mentioning her uncannily authentic chicken sound, which has made its way into more than a few performances. When not on the stage, Julia can be found horse riding in Malabar or walking her dog Bella! A mezzo-soprano, she continues to train with acclaimed opera singer and vocal coach Kathleen Connell.
