About
Michael O'Donnell is a Melbourne-based fiddler, singer and multi-instrumentalist whose performances are driven by a love of traditional music, joyful collaboration and the energy that comes from sharing music with other people. As one half of the folk duo Mickey & Michelle, Michael has toured extensively throughout Australia, Spain, the UK, Iceland and Canada, bringing together storytelling, original music and a deep connection to folk traditions. A member of the Melbourne Scottish Fiddle Club since 2021, he is passionate about Scottish and Celtic music and loves that the same tunes played on festival stages are the same ones shared with friends in living rooms and late-night sessions. Alongside his work as a musician, Michael has performed in a number of theatre productions including Orpheus and Eurydice, Imagine, and Ljubičica - Wild Violet, combining singing, movement, improvisation and audience interaction within immersive performance environments. He particularly enjoys the spontaneity of live performance and the opportunity to create something unique with fellow performers and audiences each night. Known for his passionate fiddle playing and playful stage presence, Michael is happiest when surrounded by great musicians, sharing tunes, telling stories, and creating moments where audiences feel they are a part of the joy. Live performance, for him, is about connection, honesty and the magic that happens when people gather together and make something real.
