Rp van der Westhuizen

I’m a Western Australian actor, director and Drama educator with a strong background in musical theatre, character work, improvisation and ensemble-driven performance. My recent credits include Jetsam in The Little Mermaid, Jack in Into the Woods, Bert Healy in Annie, Igor in Young Frankenstein, Charles Guiteau in Assassins, Eddie in Mamma Mia! and Masc 2 in Plied and Prejudice (Woodward Productions) As a director, I have worked across a range of productions, most notably directing the Western Australian premiere of Billy Elliot at Koorliny Arts Centre. Working extensively on both sides of the rehearsal room has given me a strong understanding of character development, storytelling and collaborative performance. I’m particularly drawn to roles with strong characterisation, theatricality and emotional complexity. I bring a versatile performance style, a strong work ethic and a genuine love of the rehearsal process. Alongside my professional theatre work, I teach Drama at Mandurah Baptist College, where I continue to develop my practice and passion for storytelling.
