Temple Flaws

My name is Temple Flaws and I am from New Zealand and moved to Sydney to dive headfirst into a wonderful whirlwind of Musical Theatre. Although home will always be home, I have not looked back since. I thank my body every day for the strength, resilience, and ability it has to carry me through this wonderfully challenging world. I continuously remind myself of how privileged I am to have had the opportunity to study, live and breathe the performing arts and I never let myself forget that. I like to immerse myself in all aspects of the performing arts, and when I say everything I mean EVERYTHING. Just as an example, In early 2021 I was a part of an immersive art installation called ‘Struggling With Lentils’. The piece explored and discussed the nature of food production, consumption and sustainability, so for five shows I made Tortellini. That’s right….pasta. Myself and two others weaved around each other in a choreographed cooking routine making Tortellini for a live audience. Another unforgettable performance was a contemporary piece for National Flash Fiction Day inspired by the written work of Dr Susan Wardell and accompanied by a piece on the longest grand piano in the world. I mention this as both performances were so diverse to anything I had done or seen before and I totally embraced and absolutely loved it. I grasp any opportunity to soak up the knowledge of another creative, to move my body in ways I hadn’t yet discovered and to experience any new form of art. I continue to learn more about myself as a performer but also as a person. I believe acting and playing characters can only go so far if you do not yet fully understand yourself and your identity.
