Vanessa Chan

I am an enthusiastic performer and musician with a passion for dancing and singing, and an avid supporter of the magic of live theatre. Growing up in a Filipino family, I was surrounded by singing, dancing, karaoke and music my entire life. From the age of 4, I began taking lessons in all dance styles (ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary, lyrical and hip hop), singing and classical piano, and went on to compete in national competitions for dance. Although I no longer belong to a dance studio, I regularly attend open classes in a variety of dance genres to retain my dance skills and nurture my love for dance. I also continue to work on my singing skills as I participate in my local church choir on a weekly basis. This has given me the skill of being able to harmonise and confidently sing both soprano and alto parts in a song. I am very fortunate to have seen many musical theatre productions in Sydney, as well as on Broadway in New York City. Most importantly, I have had the privilege of watching Matilda the Musical live on the West End in London, which was truly an unforgettable theatre experience! Watching all these musicals has inspired me to be brave, step outside my comfort zone and pursue my love of performing. I would truly be so honoured to make my professional theatre debut in Matilda the Musical, as this musical, with its beautiful story and masterfully creative music, holds such a special place in my heart. As I am quite short (153cm in height) and am a very youthful-looking 26 year old, I would love to audition for the adult child roles/child swing. This is my preferred role, as I am often mistaken for a child in my everyday life, so I think that I would blend in very well with the rest of the children. Additionally, I would also like to audition for the adult ensemble, as I would be extremely grateful to have any role in this production!
