Zody Takurua

Zody is an emerging figure in the New Zealand performing arts scene, and 2025 Graduate of the Toi Whakaari: The New Zealand Drama School. They are currently based in Wellington further developing their craft as a performer and theatre maker. Zody already has a strong stage resume including Katie Wolfe's 'The Haka Party Incident' & Helen Pearse Otene's 'The Undertow' quartet, and is developing a name in local screen productions including Max Curries 'RURANGI', and Shane Rangi's short film 'Chain Reaction'.  Zody is also a talented writer. In 2025 their script 'WHŌRE' was selected for development supported by Te Pou theatre's (New Zealand's largest Māori Theatre company) KŌANGA Festival (AKL, NZ), and was also fortunate enough to support the development of new theatre in Naarm (VIC, AUS) under the Aphids Residency supported by La Mama Theatre. Zody brings an analytical, provocative, and current approach to theatre making that centres Queer and Māori stories and asks audiences to actively engage with what's happening around them.
